At some point before the events of this story, Lila Cheney discovers a Dyson sphere and makes it her base of operations. She conceives an ambition to auction Earth and places stargates around the planet. Charasūlla contacts Lila outside auction to negotiate a private purchase and is scorned. Phil Hovannes bargains with Charasūlla. A Vrakanín bounty hunter is dispatched to murder Lila. On Earth, Dani Moonstar commences physical therapy with Stevie Hunter.

Xavier's School: Charles Xavier tests Sam Guthrie's abilities in the Danger Room.

New York: The Vrakanín bounty hunter appears.

Xavier's School: Roberto da Costa obtains tickets to the Lila Cheney concert for his teammates.

New York: The night of the concert. The Vrakanín bounty hunter sabotages a speaker tower. Sam rescues Lila. The New Mutants engage the bounty hunter. Lila teleports herself and Sam to the Dyson sphere. Warlock activates the stargate. The New Mutants teleport to empty space one light year from the Dyson sphere.

Lila's Dyson Sphere: Charasūlla again contacts Lila. He is scorned a second time.

Space: Warlock transports the New Muants to the Dyson sphere.

Twenty-four hours pass, during which Charasūlla enters the Dyson sphere and subdues Lila and Sam.

Lila'a Dyson Sphere: Dani, Rahne, and Warlock are captured and brought before Charasūlla. Amara and Illyana rescue their teammates. Doug Ramsey deactives the stargate web around Earth. Lila teleports the team to her London home.

London, England: Sam pardons Lila. Lila composes a single titled "Sam". Three months pass and the single reaches the No 1 spot on the music charts.

NOTES: Lila Cheney's end-of-tour concert takes place on August 21st. Roberto has had previous dealings with Lila's tour promoter. First appearance of Lila Cheney. Illyana states that the New Mutants' rescue of Kitty Pryde from Emma Frost took place the previous winter. Sam has read Larry Niven's Ringworld. There are two colouring errors. In the first, the characters are given the wrong skin colour. In the second, Rahne is shown blonde. Lila has a grudge against Earth. Her songs are autobiographical.
