At some point before the events of this story, Doug Ramsey is accepted into the Massachusetts Academy. Count Belasco dispatches S'ym to retrieve Illyana Rasputin.

Xavier's School: Illyana contemplates her destiny. Doug Ramsey visits with news of his scholarship. Finding Kitty Pryde absent, he departs with his message undelivered. Stevie and the New Mutants set out for Salem Centre Mall to purchase supplies for a party in Charles' honour.

Salem Centre: Rahne introduces Amara to Diana.

Xavier's School: S'ym renders Charles unconscious. Stevie and the New Mutants return from Salem Centre. Illyana enters the mansion and is surprised by S'ym. Dani deploys her mutant power against the demon, manifesting a hybrid spirit-form of Count Belasco and Illyana. Stevie bears Illyana to the mansion's transit tunnel, where the girl uses sorcery to bind S'ym to her will. She edits Stevie's memory. Charles' party takes place, and the X-Men return from their adventure with the Morlocks. Charles reveals that he has regained the use of his legs. Doug appears and passes on his news to Kitty.

NOTES: Illyana Rasputin is 15. A year has passed since Count Belasco took her into Limbo. It is implied that Roberto kissed Amara beneath a coconut tree in Nova Roma. Salem Centre Mall is still being rebuilt due to the events of The New Mutants Vol 1 #2. It is Illyana's birthday. Charles identifies Count Belasco as "an infamous 13th century demonologist". When Illyana was a child, S'ym would punish her for misbehaviour, a task he apparently relished.
