The Road to...Rome?
At some point before the events of this story, Nina and the New Mutants reach Manuas. They sail upriver along the Amazon by yacht. Castro, a Hellfire Club plant, is aboard. Two weeks pass.
Amazon Rainforest, Brazil: Roberto transmits telemetry of the New Mutants' recent training sessions to Charles.
Xavier's School: Charles continues to train Team America.
Amazon Rainforest, Brazil: Castro makes an unsuccessful attempt on Dani's life. Dani and Sam are attacked by Amara, who they capture. Aboard the yacht, Castro sides with the captain against Silvera. Nina examines Amara's weapons.
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil: Emmanuel meets with Sebastian Shaw concerning his plans for the Maderia.
Amazon Rainforest, Brazil: The yacht approaches the Maderia. Castro drugs the ship's food. He murders the captain. Rahne saves Amara from Castro but is stricken unconscious. Nina and the New Mutants awake and the yacht is destroyed by rapids. Nina is lost and Amara's disguise is revealed. The Fourth Maniple seize the team and take them to Nova Roma.
NOTES: Amara and her followers are depicted with fair skin on the cover of this issue. First appearance of Amara. Rahne was born in the Scottish Highlands.
